Some blog readers have asked me to ask all of you out there if by any chance you’ve tried the “Meriva” curcumin. If so, do you have any results? I’m curious, too, even though I have such a huge supply of Doctor’s Best (the 500 mg capsule form) that I won’t be trying anything new for months…But still, I’d love to know…Thanks!
A reader sent me the link to this “Medical News Today” article about a recent, comparative Meriva study: http://goo.gl/bhGiE Since I don’t have access to the full study, I don’t know what type of “corresponding unformulated curcuminoid mixture” was used in this comparative test…that would be a bit of interesting info, methinks…oh well…
The abstract of the original study can be found here: http://goo.gl/QldHu Interesting quote: …the major plasma curcuminoid after administration of Meriva was not curcumin (1a), but demethoxycurcumin (1b), a more potent analogue in many in vitro anti-inflammatory assays. Well, well…
Anyway, for the first time since I tested BCM-95 (with terrrrrrrible results), I am tempted to try something new…But not until I finish what I already have…especially since the price of curcumin has soared in recent months…mamma mia! 😯
Read all about it at us.indena.com/pdf/meriva_us.pdf
Unformulated would mean regular curcumin 95% which I have been taking for about 6 yrs, mixed with liquid lecithin to form a lipisome. I purchase curcumin 95 in bulk from China, much cheaper than from a US supplier (PureBulk), 5kg lots $1100 US.
I’d be very interested in hearing what Dr. Aggarwal thinks of this study, Margaret.
Margaret, am I understanding this correctly that “…the major plasma curcuminoid after administration of Meriva was not curcumin (1a), but demethoxycurcumin (1b), a more potent analogue in many in vitro anti-inflammatory assays.” as quoted in your above post as being a good thing? I am trying to better understand all this information.
Hi, does anyone have any thoughts on whether the Thorne research Meriva Curcumin with its time-release properties would have advantages over the Swansons or Drs Best Meriva Curcumin, neither of which have time release properties added?
I have been taking this and if you believe a more constant level in the blood is god then this would seem to provide that
Thanks Ronald. My initial thoughts were that a more constant level in the blood would be more preferable (I have nothing to base this on – I just assumed this would give the body the best chance to absorb) but after I posted my question I read Margaret’s comments about how she thought the ‘atomic bomb’ approach was the most effective, so now I’m undecided!
