Still coughing

CoughSyrupWow, I STILL have a cough. I mean, it’s A LOT better than it was last week, but it’s still there…sporadic and annoying.

Apparently lots of people in Florence are sick with more or less the same thing, so I’m not alone. In fact, a good friend of mine called to check on me and to tell me that she’d coughed for an entire month (last month). Thanks a lot for the encouragement! 😉

This morning my family doctor put me on a second cycle of antibiotics. That should do it! But, I confess, I’m still feeling a bit on the sluggish side. However, I’m back to giving English lessons AND doing laundry, so that counts for something, right?

I’ll be fine in a couple of days. Just hand me some more cough syrup, please! 😉

  1. Something similar here in NC with me and others. A never ending cough. I’ve had similar symptoms in past years resembling pneumonia that began to subside in a couple of days with ten days of amoxicillin. But it wasn’t helped with that this time. Feel better soon Margaret.

  2. Hey, I’ve been dealing with the same thing for 2 weeks ,slow improvement, but just keeps hanging on

I thought you should see this latest article:

Long-term stabilisation of myeloma with curcumin.

Myeloma is a haematological malignancy which typically follows a relapsing-remitting course. While treatment can control the myeloma and improve quality of life for given periods of time, remissions generally become progressively shorter with subsequent relapses, and patients ultimately enter a final refractory phase. To help control symptoms and enhance quality of life, some patients use complementary therapies as an adjunct to their conventional therapy. Here, we describe a myeloma patient who started a daily dietary supplement of curcumin when approaching her third relapse. In the absence of further antimyeloma treatment, the patient plateaued and has remained stable for the last 5 years with good quality of life.

  4. Herbal Cough remedy:
1 green tea bag * (We recommend Kirkland brand, and brewing your own)
    1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
    1/2 teaspoon turmeric
    1/2 teaspoon thyme
    2 teaspoons honey
    Juice of half a lemon
    * Green tea is preferred, but regular tea can be used as an inferior substitute.

Prepare this remedy by placing the tea bag and herbs into a coffee mug with boiling water. Let them seep for three minutes, then strain before adding the honey and lemon.

  5. Glad you’re getting better, Margaret. If your cough still bothers you, try an asthma bronchodilator like Proair HFA. I accidentally found out that it is the ONLY thing that would completely stop my cough for 6 hours. That was when I had a cold. It stops the cough instantly and completely for 4 to 6 hours.

I mentioned this to a Dr who said “Oh yeah! I didn’t think about that!”
