U.S. Presidential Campaign 2008

A blog reader/myeloma patient/friend, thank you!, sent me the following (it’s going around Internet). Once you have read it, I guess there will be no question as to where I stand!

If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you’re “exotic, different.”

Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, a quintessential American story.

If your name is Barack, you’re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you’re a maverick.

Graduate from Harvard Law School and you are unstable.

Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you’re well grounded.

If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees, you don’t have any real leadership experience.

If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you’re qualified to become the country’s second highest ranking executive.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you’re not a real Christian.

If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, left your disfigured wife and married heiress Cindy the next month, you’re a Christian.

If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state’s school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you’re very responsible.

If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family’s values don’t represent America’s.

If your husband is nicknamed “First Dude”, with at least one DWI conviction, who didn’t register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is admirable.

OK, much clearer now………….

  1. Italy not such a good choice. Spain much better in these days!!!
    Great school on MM too.

😀 sherlock in love with Spain

  2. 1. It is impossible to under estimate the intelligence of the American electorate.
    2. Americans like people they can identify with. Everything else is irrelevant. (like policy, critical thinking, creativity, leadership…)
    3. Someone who shoots wild animals from a helicopter should be able to police the skies of the world for wild thinkers (and shoot them). Problems solved!

    🙂

  3. Dear Friends,
After reading the posts above, I’d like to share a few of my thoughts with you. I am thankful to be an American. We’re not perfect, far from it, but I’m thankful just the same. Our forefathers fought long and hard to ensure the freedoms that many of us take for granted today. George Washington once said, “This liberty will look easy by and by when nobody dies to get it.” We have many who continue that fight in foreign lands today, not just for the freedoms of our country but theirs as well. We have offered our life’s blood to many countries throughout the world and to my knowledge, have asked for nothing in return. After all is said and done, we even offer our funds and services to help them rebuild. No, we’re not perfect, but we do our best. For those of us who choose to leave this country, we can thank those brave men and women who made this freedom possible. Having MM has made me a little more thankful for all of my blessings. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to share this one with you today. Sincerely, Donna

  4. Dear Donna,
The greatest danger we all face is that we believe our own propaganda. The reason that the Americans and British are hated by so many people around the world is that we arrogantly assume our way is best and that everyone will be happier under a democracy.
I am writing this from Beijing. I feel safer here than in London or New York. Most people here, even the very poor (and there are still a lot of them), seem relatively content. There is comparatively little crime. Theft is rare (I’m told I can leave my laptop in the car). I have seen no muggings or stabbings. Gun crime is practically unheard of.
We preach that freedom and democracy are the most important things in life but they are not. Good leadership is – and democracy does not guarantee it – as we have shown time and again.
Is there a model for a better form of Government? I don’t know but a guy called Confucius had some good ideas 2,500 years ago – about the time the Greeks came up with the democratic system.
    Best wishes,
    Paul
PS Confucian quote from Wikipedia: “When you have faults, do not fear to abandon them.”
PPS to LPC I hope I’m safe from the thought police here 🙂

  5. Thank you Paul! I’m not wise enough, intelligent enough, or have energy enough to debate the governments of the world. I only know about me and I’ve grown accustomed to being free to choose and kinda like it! : ) I wish you continued health and happiness, peace and prosperity in your country. Just sign me, a patriotic old American!
